Mr. David and Mrs. Dale Hodges, of Valdosta, GA, celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on March 20, 2019. They were united in marriage on March 20, 1969 at Grace Baptist Church in Valdosta with Reverend Eldridge Lyons officiating. Fifty years later, Reverend Lyons also officiated the couple's Vowel Renewal Ceremony on March 30, 2019 at Francis Lake Baptist Church in an intimate ceremony surrounded by family and friends. Music for the ceremony was provided by Cpt. Buddy Johnson, a long-time family friend.
Mrs. Hodges is the daughter of the late Earl and Eva Mae Wood. Mr. Hodges is the son of the late Foy and Annie Hodges.
Escorted by her son, David Hodges, Jr., Mrs. Hodges wore an A-line floor length dress of champagne satin, lace and sequins. Her dress was complimented by diamond and pearl droplet earrings and a matching pendant necklace which were given to her on the day of the ceremony by her daughters, Michelle and Brenda. She also wore her adored mother's diamond and pearl ring. Mrs. Hodges carried a hand-tied bouquet of white roses adorned with baby's breath. The alter was decorated with a floral centerpiece featuring 50 white roses, live greenery and tiered candelabras.
Bridesmaids were Michelle Watley, Brenda Vazquez, and Mackenzie Dale Watley. Miss Aubrey Rose Vazquez was her flower girl. The bridesmaids wore black cocktail-length dresses with eloquently scalloped necklines. Each carried a hand-tied bouquet of white roses adorned with baby's breath. The flower girl wore a white chiffon floor length dress with pearled flowers on the bodice and a diamond and gold headpiece. She carried a basket of white rose petals.
Groomsmen were David Hodges, Jr., Dalton Watley, Lee Hodges, and Buck Welch, nephew of Mrs. Hodges.
The ceremony was followed by a reception in the church's reception hall. The cakes were adorned with the cars David and Dale drove when they met - 1957 Chevy Bel Air (David) and 1965 Ford Mustang (Dale).
Under the mentorship of his father-in-law, Mr. Earl Wood, they opened "Earl Wood Used Cars" in 1969 which would become one of the most successful used car businesses in Valdosta, "David Hodges Cars and Trucks." They say any business is as good as the woman behind it and there was no exception in this case with David and Dale.
In 1980 Dale became one of the first women business owners in Valdosta and opened a successful business of her own, "Dale Hodges Homes".
David and Dale can still be found today providing friendly, reputable service at "Old Hodges Auto Sales," in Valdosta.
The couple is most proud of their three children, Michelle Watley, of Lake Park, GA; Brenda Vazquez and her husband Anthony, of Kennesaw, GA; and David Hodges, Jr. and his wife Courtney.
They have eight grandchildren: Dalton Watley and his fiancé, Jacey Burger; Mackenzie Watley; Lee, Matt and Holt Hodges; Aubrey Rose, Eli and Ethan Vazquez (twins). They have one great grandchild, Aiden Watley and one great grandchild on the way.
These two lovebirds enjoy running their business together, spending time with their church family, and traveling. They especially love spending time with their children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
